HSD presents the innovative Floating Head - maximum operational versatility – contact us for more information

In order to resolve the problem of different cutting depths when milling panels of uncalibrated thickness, the HSD Research & Development department has designed an innovative AGGREGATE capable of copying the surface of the panel and floating in Z.

The specific purpose of the floating right-angle head is to make up for the lack of a floating electrospindle, resulting in an increase in the versatility of use and productivity of NC machines.

ADVANTAGES:

HIGH OPERATIONAL VERSATILITY deriving from the ability to carry out micro-incisions, nesting and standard milling operations on uncalibrated panels, thus preventing the risk of producing cuts of different depths.
GREATER PRODUCTIVITY due to the high rotation speeds, which are ideal for all milling operations, especially when using small diameter tools.
MINOR RISK of marking the copied surface thanks to the use of buffer pads of various sizes and materials.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS:

The copying and floating functions for thickness variations of up to +/-6 mm are obtained by the combined action of a suitably calibrated spring and splined shafts mounted on a ball bearing sleeve.

Regulating the position of the floating bell allows the milling depth of the aggregate to be varied. This is done by simply screwing/unscrewing the bell itself.

The coaxial rigidity of the system is guaranteed by a solid body, machined from sheets of Ergal on 5-axis work centres, and by two robust splined shafts, providing a perfect combination of lightness and rigidity.

The use of ground wearproof WC/C tungsten carbide coated gears, casehardened shafts and high-precision bearings allow the high tool rotation speeds (18000 rpm) required for the machining operations described above to be reached.
